How a bunch of Reddit memes became the best armor in Runescape

Old School Runescape, the antiquated model of Runescape that still looks and performs like the match I sank countless hours into when I really should have been studying, is getting a raid. Its next raid, as it occurs: The Theatre of Blood. A fantastic raid needs good rewards, therefore when the Theatre of Blood was declared late last year, players were not able to RS Gold find out what clearing the multi-man challenge would earn them. Jagex reacted with Justicar armor, a new best-in-slot armor set (above). There was one small problem: gamers totally hated it. They memed on it so hard that Jagex is now totally altering the armor's design. Virtually all of Old School Runescape's updates go through participant polls, but this is the first time a suit of armor has been forged in a passion of memes. The irony is that while gamers hated the'closing' armor revealed earlier this season, they adored the prototypes shown while the raid was announced. Initially, the Justicar armor was bulkier and part of a trio of armor sets, West informs me, but as the Theatre of Blood went from obscure concept to real material, the armor changed with it. Players said there was enough DPS equipment but insufficient tank gear, so it had been narrowed down to only 1 armor set. And when they were just going to use one group, Jagex figured they might as well make a new one based on the armor worn with the raid's huge bad.

"We thought changing it up a little made sense," West says,"but players weren't quite on board with the original proposal we shared stream. The memes came out hard and fast. Many demanded a return to the model designs. Others believed the new armor didn't look tanky enough and generously provided some alternatives, with some calling for a more drastic redesign.

It got so bad that some players started to seriously believe a meme the upgraded armor was by another artist, which the artist who left the prototypes had abandoned Jagex. But then something amazing happened. Even as memes blotted out the sun, gradually but surely serious suggestions started to glow through. It began with crude Photoshop tasks, but shortly appropriate illustrations and fan art began to crop up. Players rallied around the idea of a milder, blessed armor set inspired by the Runescape god Saradomin, so that they went back to West's prototype designs and made a few changes. Driven from the memes and inspired by elements of OSRS Buy Gold West's designs and other players' ideas, legend_arts created a hybrid armor design so great it not merely silenced the memes, it got the attention of West himself.
