Almost 80% of the new folks we take in seem to turn out to be golden farmers. (I feel the gold farmers are more widespread as they use WoW for a job and rebound between scripting and actually controlling their toon) We've never gotten some kick backs from these characters but we generally take just two raids to wow classic gold figure out they are golden sellers to have the ability to kick them from guild.
I had the same tinfoil hat kind of conspiracy but I've given up on this plot. Reason being is personally I'm at a semi hardcore guild and in this stage in classic it is very tough to find new people coming raiders so when some unguided 60's desire in to get a trial ridden place we are forced to try them out.
However would they willingly eliminate 1/5 of the participant population when they could continue to make millions off of individuals abusing their fanciful currency for real cash. From a PR perspective it is the largest shit-filled smack in the face to the player base, from an economical standpoint it is the easiest money they'll ever make.
